About The Role

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is a leading open‑source software provider powering enterprise cloud, AI, and IoT solutions worldwide. As a Distributed Systems Engineer, you will design high‑throughput APIs, build secure telemetry platforms, and collaborate with a global remote team to deliver scalable SaaS services that drive the next generation of IoT innovation.

Responsibilities

Design, architect, and build high‑performance APIs for streaming data services using Python and Go.
Develop robust governance, auditing, and management systems for the telemetry platform ensuring security and compliance.
Collaborate with the infrastructure team to create scalable cloud‑based SaaS solutions for IoT devices.
Drive technical excellence in a globally distributed team, including code reviews and mentorship.
Contribute to open‑source components and improve the Ubuntu ecosystem reliability.

Requirements

  • Strong programming experience in Python and Go.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud SaaS architectures.
  • Hands‑on experience with Linux, containers (Snap/Ubuntu) and IoT telemetry pipelines.
  • Proficiency in designing secure, scalable data‑streaming solutions.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, globally distributed environment.
