About The Role

GitLab, a leading product‑based DevSecOps platform, is expanding its backend team in Bangalore. As an Intermediate Backend Engineer focusing on Database Change Management, you will build safe, fast upgrade mechanisms for GitLab.com and self‑managed customers, leveraging Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL. You’ll work remotely with a high‑performance, AI‑enabled culture, gaining mentorship and deepening expertise in system reliability and database engineering.

Responsibilities

Design and implement robust database migration pipelines for GitLab upgrades

Develop and maintain Ruby on Rails services that orchestrate schema changes

Write automated tests and monitoring to ensure upgrade reliability and rollback safety

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot upgrade failures and improve performance

Document migration processes and contribute to internal knowledge base

Requirements

Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL
Hands‑on experience building and managing database schema migrations
Solid understanding of Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI
Ability to write clean, testable code and unit/integration tests
