Responsibilities

Contribute to the evolution and maintenance of Notion’s asynchronous task runner that supports massive global scale.

Work with senior engineers to ensure systems remain reliable, efficient, and scalable as product usage grows.

Evaluate, adopt, and integrate new technologies to address emerging infrastructure and performance challenges.

Enable product engineers to build features confidently by improving platform stability and tooling.

Debug live production systems with minimal disruption, including component replacements and failover handling.

Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to incidents, restore services quickly, and uphold reliability standards.

Collaborate with product engineering and infrastructure teams to align platform capabilities with business and product goals.

Apply best practices in distributed systems to balance consistency, latency, scalability, and maintainability.

Continuously improve observability, reliability, and operational processes across infrastructure components.

Requirements

At least 1 year of professional experience as a software engineer, ideally in backend or infrastructure roles.
Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts and system design tradeoffs.
Ability to think pragmatically, balancing engineering craft, speed, and long-term system health.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with evolving requirements.
Strong sense of ownership with a bias toward action and measurable results.
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, especially in production environments.
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams with a customer- and engineer-first mindset.
Good communication skills to explain tradeoffs and guide other engineers.
